On this page you’ll find descriptions of some of the chiropractic services Dr. Royle provides, and the techniques he uses in treating his patients.
Sports Injuries
Doctors of Chiropractic, especially Certified Chiropractic Sports Physicians, are uniquely skilled in treating the athlete. Sports injuries and the rigors of athletic conditioning will typically disturb normal body biomechanics. The net effect of these disturbances may negatively affect athletic performance.
Chiropractic Sports Physicians receive extensive training in neuro-muscular-skeletal conditions. This training enables them to recognize and treat joint dysfunction. When a joint is dysfunctional, there may also be disturbed neurological reflexes, which may result in poorly-communicated information to the central nervous system. These diminished reflexes may result in slowed reaction time or may cause muscles to become dysfunctional, tight or inhibited. Numerous studies demonstrate enhanced mechanics of a joint in addition to enhanced nervous system function immediately following chiropractic manipulation.
- The Chiropractic Sports Physician receives postgraduate education in the treatment of conditions related to body mechanics, diagnosis, emergency procedures, pre-participation evaluations, rehabilitation, injury prevention, physical therapy, nutrition, joint support and taping, exercise prescription, and athletic conditioning.
- Because Doctors of Chiropractic use methods that do not include pharmaceuticals, the athlete can receive care without the fear of drug reactions, loss of alertness, or athletic disqualification.
- Additionally, Chiropractic Sports Physicians are well trained to recognized the need for referral to other health-care professionals, and are not hesitant to do so when needed.
Kinesio Taping
Kinesio Taping is a taping system that provides support while allowing for full range of motion. This tape works by using decompression to unload tissue. It decreases pain and also provides a stimulus to increase body awareness.
This is the same tape you can see in professional and Olympic athletes.
IASTM
Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) is a manual therapy technique designed to provide direct, mechanical manipulation of irregular tissue.
Cupping
We utilize a cupping method that creates a decompressive force over tissue. This allows for pain relief, increased fluid circulation, edema reduction, and muscle relaxation.
We don’t do wet or blood-letting techniques in our office.
Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression
Non-surgical spinal decompression provides gentle traction to the spine, stretching and relaxing it intermittently in a controlled manner. This helps relieve pressure and pain on the compressed structures of the spine.
This procedure creates a negative intradiscal pressure which promotes the re-positioning of bulging/ herniating disc. It also allows for better passage of healing nutrients into the disc and surround ligaments.
Non-surgical spinal decompression may also provide relief for those with spinal stenosis.
Orthotics
We have a digital scanner that designs custom-made orthotics. In our experience many chronic injuries are because of improper footwear. There are three major arches in the foot but most store bought orthotics only support one. Our orthotics offer customized flexibility and support to create a well balanced approach for everyday activities. We also offer a wide variety of shoes , boots, sandals and athletic footwear with custom made orthotics.
Youth & Children
Dr. Royle’s philosophy is that you’re never too young to receive chiropractic care. Many minor injuries caused by slips and falls as a child, if left untreated, become long-term problems that will take much longer to resolve at a later age.
